Today’s the day! We’re going live at 8:30 (ish) to let a student finish Mr. Corey’s hair.

Ms. Hodges, Ms. Maggie, and Mr. Corey participated in last Saturday’s event at Finnegan’s wake to raise money for childhood cancer, which St. Baldrick’s website says is incredibly underfunded with only 4% of government funding dedicated to its research. St. Baldrick’s Foundation works to fill that gap and Mr. Corey has done his part by wearing a ridiculous haircut all weekend!

Also, here’s a shameless plug—Aisling Institute has donated a full scholarship to the St. Baldrick’s foundation! You can reach out to the Winston Salem team to find out how to bid! (Do you know someone who’s always wanted to go to beauty school or esthetics school? Do you want to gift the scholarship to another charity—perhaps the Children’s Home—so they could send a high school graduate? The possibilities are endless. We are dreaming of the amazing outcomes that could happen!

All I can do is pray for you…

Did you know nail techs aren’t licensed to wax in North Carolina?

Besides, there’s a difference between a brow wax and a brow shaping.

At Aisling, a student esthetician is going to spend time talking with you & making recommendations based on your facial shape, eye shape, and coloring. They’ll find out what your preferences and brow goals.

We take care to make sure our wax is never so hot that it burns you. And we NEVER reuse applicator sticks, no matter how many sticks it takes. This ensures a sanitary service for all. If you have your brows done somewhere else and the esthetician is reusing the same stick—Run!

Finally, after a wax appointment, an esthetician should send you off with a plan for where you are now and how you’ll get to the goals you discussed in the consultation. You should leave each appointment with the next one rebooked according to your student and the instructor’s recommendation. If not, you’re more likely try to take care of any strays at home, which can really set back your brow goals.

But for real there are some HUGE differences:
1. We teach real skills to make real money in the real world. When you’re touring schools in the Triad, ask about whether they’re on the “old” state board rules or the “new” curriculum. The old one mandates a certain number of performance completions in order to graduate. Other schools will tell you that it’s to make sure you get practice (maybe you do—but it will be in irrelevant services like roller sets and pedicures—that you will probably never need in the real world!)
2. State Board Pass Rates. We do mock state board practice weekly and boast a near perfect pass rate!
3. We don’t hire just anyone. Yeah—state board is ridiculous—they say how many teachers a school has to have. Other schools hire just anyone so they can pack classes. We cancel classes when we can’t deliver the level of education we’re famous for.
4. Payment options. You could take out a loan to cover an enormous tuition bill at the other school, that money has to be paid back.According to savingforcollege.com, it will take you 15 years to pay it back! You won’t have debt when you graduate from Aisling!
5. Aisling doesn’t make money on your student services. Other schools will charge you tuition and then turn around and charge customers in the student clinic for services that you provide. We see that as charging you twice and using your sweat to make money. At Aisling, we have a unique “Performance-Based Tuition” where you can earn your tuition in the student clinic doing the services you love! It’s a win-win!
6. Beautiful environment. Most area beauty schools are in run-down shopping centers or old buildings that haven’t been updated in many years. We’re proud of our environment at the Factory in Kernersville. We love the notion that we’re a school for the future housed in a building full of memories of the past—the very history that formed that community that we call home!

If you have an active cosmetology license or esthetician license, we can get you licensed in as little as 30-45 days with the promise of a job! Did you know we offer individual lash extensions? And it’s included in our tuition? North Carolina state board says we have to teach lashes, but they allow for just strip lashes. And that’s what a lot of schools do.

Not Aisling.

We know you can’t make a real living making real money in the real world with the minimal skill set they demand. So we do the most: we teach brown lamination, lash lifts, individual lash extensions, and an outside session in spray tanning. So we’ll offer dermaplaning and microneedling. We give you a complete curriculum in social media marketing and in the cosmetology department we spend minimal time on small ticket skills like perms and pedicures to make sure you can balayage and dimensional color and be a six figure stylist years ahead of grads from other schools. All without expecting our students to use federal financial. AND we offer an apprenticeship program that lets you finish school and start working months before students at other schools. There’s no good reason to pick anyone else.

The temperatures are cooling off and that’s reason enough to dance! 💃

We love having this courtyard on our campus! It’s the perfect place to hang out during breaks or to have lunch or just chill before or after class with a cookie and an iced latte from our on-campus coffee shop! ☕️

Good morning students!

As you know, Friday was the monthly online learning day while your instructors and staff gathered for their mandatory monthly meeting! You are eligible to earn 10 hours for Friday if all of the following conditions are met:

✅You used your online time tracker accurately and it reflects the entire 10+ hours
✅You completed your instructor’s assignment
✅You attend all of your scheduled hours today
✅Your project must be completed and turned in in person today (not digitally)

We know it’s a lot of rules—we defer to our promise to get you ready for your State Board examination (where there are lots of rules) and employment (where you’ll have a boss—or bosses (customers) in the event that you choose self-employment after graduation.

We also know you’re out here doing you’re best. Because you are the best in our eyes. 🤗

If you’ve met Ms. Lisa, you love her as much as we do! There’s no way not to! To 👏tal👏Superhero.

Got a question about your hours? Go see Ms. Lisa. Need to make payment arrangements for your bill? Ms. Lisa’s your girl. State Board is on campus? Uh oh. Call Ms. Lisa. Locked out of one of our computer programs? Ms. Lisa can probably help. Good gracious—even when we need more toilet paper or attention to the quirky things that happen from doing business in an old business like the random bird in the hall—Ms. Lisa will save us!

While Aisling is fortunate enough to have a management team that works well together, Ms. Lisa is an important piece of that squad! (Not only does she do all of these things, but she’s earned nicknames among her teammates like “the Defender,” because she sticks up for EVERYBODY and is known as our in-house Southern Belle, who her teammates know they can count on to handle the stickiest situations with all the grace and charm that you’d expect from a true debutante!)

Did you know Ms. Lisa is so good at her job the NC State Board examiner suggested that she holds a class to teach other schools how to keep their records? (P.S. She won’t be doing that!!!)

Aisling Institute wouldn’t be the best school in the Triad without Ms. Lisa’s contributions. She’s literally everything. We love her so much. We’re so glad she’s ours. 🤗🥰Comment below if Ms. Lisa has helped you with something during your time here!

We ask students on the first day of class to raise their hand if they really want to be in cosmetology school. Invariably, lots say they do. We call them out; no one wants to be here—everyone is enrolled because they want to do hair or skin for money. And to do that,ya need a license. And to get a license, 1500 hours in school is what the North Carolina State Board of Cosmetic Arts says ya gotta do to get that license.

So yeah…there’s lots of fun in beauty school, but it’s lots of work too. And it’s definitely no fun on a rainy fall day after a long weekend. But graduation is coming up in just a few weeks. And then licensure. And then the amazing career of your dreams. We commend you for showing up and doing what needs to be done for 1500 hours! We know it’s not easy—you’re doing great!

Prejudice is rampant in the cosmetic arts world. While as an industry we know we tend to be open minded and artistic, sometimes the outside world expects us to be a certain way—especially in their expectations of our physical appearances and the “outside.” Usually without realizing it, the public expects us to have outlandish hair and perfect skin. But on the inside, we’re all just human.

At Aisling, we help people become who they are. We don’t believe in letting expectations of appearance dictate basic human rights. We want everyone to have the same opportunities for self esteem, ambition, and success, even if they don't look the way some might expect a hairdresser or barber or esthetician to look.

Eradicating clichés and the behaviors that are associated with them should be a priority for all schools and the world as a whole. We promise it is at Aisling.

What’s that? You’ll already be graduated? No worries! At Aisling Institute, alumni are eligible to return for advanced classes FOR FREE for the rest of their careers!
