Our picks for 2022 Beauty Trends

As we greet a new year (well, kinda! It’s already February!), it’s a great time to explore what’s in store for style, glam, and all things beauty. We’re excited that just like Aisling Institute, 2022 beauty trends seem to be focused on innovation, sustainability, and a place where au-naturelle meets bits of bold color!

Skinamilism meets innovation

What is skinamilism? It’s the desire for healthy, radiant skin without a ten-step regimen. It seems counterintuitive, but innovative hybrid skincare products like Skin Perfect Primer from Dermalogica offer skin-loving care and makeup coverage in combination. We think they’re going to continue to grow in popularity. In fact, tinted sunscreens with added skincare benefits like hyaluronic acid are a triple threat in one product. (Hint: Try Sheer Tint SPF from Dermalogica!) We’ve been teaching skincare at our sister school, Dermacademy, for a few years now so we’re all about the skin care!

Waterless products

You’ve probably tried dry shampoo before. Now the beauty industry is responding to the growing demand for sustainability by developing a whole range of waterless beauty products. Excessive use of the world’s fresh water supply is no joke and these waterless formulations equal more potent plus less water usage. That’s a win-win. (Hint: We are a Wella partnership school, so we’re partial to EIMI Dry Shampoo. It creates volume and a manageable matte texture and its formula with tapioca starch refreshes hair and absorbs oil.

Green & clean beauty

Speaking of sustainability, expect to see even more companies leaning towards more green, eco-friendly packaging and products. Refillable lipstick, eye liner, deodorant and even toothpaste, are likely to become more and more common in the year to come. And (you guessed it! We have another business partner: Green Circle Salons, Through our partnership, we’re able to recylcle up to 95% of the waste in our school and student salons and spas, including single use items like cotton balls, gloves, and even haircolor. These items are used in a waste-to-energy process that creates clean renewable energy and the leftover ash can be used as a filler in asphalt!

Blended highlights

We expect 2022 to return highlights with a twist. We don’t think we’ll see the full-on highlights of the early 2000’s, but more blended, subtle highlights that add a little pop without the high maintenance.

As for those in our men’s grooming program (studying to work in barbershops), we’re predicting the return of the buzzcut. The pandemic prompted all of us to find manageable and accessible haircuts in a time when physical and financial contraints inhibited access to regular stylists and barber. But now that there seems to be a light at the end of the very long COVID tunnel, the style is retaining its resurgence and becoming a statement hair trend for both men and women!

Indeed, a new year is always a great time to change up your look, your life and everything else!  If you’ve been considering a whole new career in grooming or cosmetic arts, make this the year you take the leap! Get started today by checking out the programs at Aisling Institute! Call us now to learn more or apply online! We can’t wait to see you in class!
